Sebastián Montes began studying classical guitar with his father. At the age of fifteen he entered the Department of arts at the University of Chile, where he studied Classical Guitar under the tutelage of Prof. Luis Orlandini. He completed his licentiate degree in music in 2003 with maximum distinction.
During this period he has already performed extensively in major concert halls throughout his native Chile. As a soloist, in a duo with Luis Orlandini, and as a member of the Cuarteto de Guitarras de Chile he was invited to give concerts in the most important festivals in Central and South America and Europe. Furthermore he performed with South America’s most prestigious orchestras.
A scholarship of the D.A.A.D (German academic exchange service) allowed him to pursue post graduate studies in Germany at the Hanover University of Music where he received the soloist diploma with distinction.
In 2004 he joined German guitarist Katrin Klingeberg in a duo and together they completed a Master’s degree followed by the Concert Exam in Chamber Music under the tutelage of the renowned Kaltchev Guitar Duo at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart. They have since won numerous first prizes in international competitions, and the KM Guitar Duo is now one of the most acclaimed guitar duos in the international guitar scene.
In December 2006 he recorded his first solo CD entitled Variaciones para Guitarra (Variations for Guitar) with works by Dowland, Weiss, Sor, Rodrigo, and Britten and in 2010 the Duos CD Recital was released.
His concert career led him through whole Europe, South and Central America, Japan and the USA. In April 2012 the Universidad Católica in Santiago de Chile appointed him to a professorship wherefore Sebastián and Katrin moved to Chile. But they return several times per year to Europe to maintain a strong presence in the concert world.
