Adam Marec started studying the guitar in 1996. Between 1998 and 2002 he studied at the Conservatory in Žilina with Dušan Lehotský. After studying under Ján Labant at the Academy of the Arts in Banská Bystrica between 2002 and 2007, he was awarded the Chancellor’s Prize. (Slovak Republic) In 2005 he spent five months at the Conservatorio A. Boito di Parma and Academia del Teatro Cinghio in Parma, Italy. He obtained a scholarship to the well-known virtuoso, Giampaolo Bandini’s class. Additionally in 2006 he spent a two month internship at the Centre de Musique Baroque in Versailles,France. There he attended Oliver Chassain‘s class at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et Danse in Paris. In 2010, under the guidance of Prof. Jela Špitková he completed a doctorate (Doctor of Arts degree) in musical interpretation, at the Academy of the Arts in Banská Bystrica, winning the Deans faculty prize. He completed master classes withsuch personalities as Jorge Morel, Máximo Diego Pujol, Štepan Rak, Roland Dyens, Odair Assad, Pavel Steidl, Marcin Dylla, Margarita Escarpa, Carlo Marchione and John W. Duarte.

He regularly gives solo concerts and performs as a soloist with various orchestra and chamber ensembles. He is currently working with the Italian guitarist Fabrizo Ferraro in the Duo-Marec-Ferraro and with violinist Andrej Baran in Duo Slavonic. Since 2007 he has regularly given concerts with pianist Eva Cáhová, and after multiple partnerships with double bass player Róbert Ragan and percussionist Peter Solárik, they founded the unconventional quartet named the Invention Quartet. With guitarist Peter Tomko, he played his diploma concert, Concerto for two Guitars and Orchestra op 210 by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco with the State Chamber Orchestra in Žilina. With the orchestra of the State Opera in Banská Bystrica he performed the famous Concierto de Aranjuez by Joaquin Rodrigo. In 2014 together with Bohdan Warchal’s Slovak Chamber Orchestra he premiered a unique concert for guitar and orchestra, Guitar Concerto by leading Slovak composer Egon Krák, under Ewald Daniel’s leadership. And the concert for two guitars and orchestra, named Brazilian Concert by the Brazilian author, Arnaldo Friere in the Duo-Marec- Farraro, with the Musica Kysuca Orchestra and Italian conductor Enrico Volpe with whom he regularly cooperates. As a soloist, he has also collaborated with other leading Slovak ensembles such as Musica Aeterna and Mucha Quartet.

He has given concerts in Slovakia, The Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Russia, Finland, Iceland, Brazil, Hong Kong, Bosna and Hercegovina and the U.K. In concert halls such as the Royal Festival Hall in London, Millenáres-Fogadó in Budapest, Hlahol-velký sál in Prague, Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, Palazzio Regio in Cagliari, Sala Verdi in Parma, Sala Mompou in Barcelona, Sha Tin Concert Hall in Hong Kong, Concert Halls of Iceland Academy of the Arts in Reykjavik, Real Conservatorio Superior de Música “Victoria Eugenia” in Granada, Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory and the Pushkin Museum Hall. He has also demonstrated his art at international festivals such as Cithara Aediculae, Brno International Guitar Festival, Hong Kong International Guitar Festival, Visegrad Guitar Festival, Dordogne Guitar Festival,  Festival Paganini, Festival Internazionae della Chitarra „Isola degli Sparvieri“, Virtuosi di Gravatá, Virtuosi Na Serra, Vesna v Rosji, Platonov Arts Festival and a lot of others. He is a finalist in the Paganini Competition in Parma, Laureate of three international guitar competitions and he has gained several prizes in national and international guitar competitions.

Adam Marec has recorded three CDs (Concerti per chitarra e orchestra, Romantic Impressions-Marec & Ferraro Egon Krák – Memoires II ) and he is currently preparing a solo album with exclusively Slovak guitar compositions, the greater part of which consists of dedications, titled Slovak Classical guitar Music.

Nowadays, in addition to his concert activities, he is devoted to teaching and he works as a guitar and chamber music tutor at the Conservatory of Ján Levoslav Bella in Banská Bystrica, as well as at the Academy of the Arts in Banská Bystrica and Ján Albrecht’s Academy in Banská Štiavnica. Since 2009 he has organized International Classical Guitar Performance Days there. He is regularly invited as a lector for master classes in Slovakia and abroad and as a jury member for national and international competitions. He he recorded several programmes for radio and television.
